Simon & Laura Walsh
July 19th 2015
Venue: Sandhole Oak Barn, Cheshire
Today at AGU headquarters, we have the wonderful task of telling you all about the beautiful wedding of Simon & Laura Walsh which took place on Sunday July 19th, at Sandhole Oak Barn in leafy Cheshire. Madeleine from All Grown Up had the honour to work with Simon & Laura over a period of about 10 months in the run up to their big day. Find out exactly what she did to help the love struck couple prepare for the biggest day of their lives so far below.
" I first met Simon & Laura at the Bridal Chic in the City Wedding Fair at The Deaf Institute in Manchester in September of 2014. I immediately felt a connection with the lovely couple due to their enthusiasm for vintage and their admiration of my stand at the show. Laura had spotted some of my handmade bunting hanging behind me and we started chatting. The conversation quickly led to how I could help them design their perfect wedding, accessories I could provide and packages that All Grown Up had.
Not long after our first meeting, I arranged to visit the couple at their flat in Manchester for an cup of tea and a natter about all things weddings. Both Simon and Laura had a clear vision of what they wanted and I enjoyed hearing about their plans and began to get very excited about how I could help them. The couple decided to take one of All Grown Up's design packages. So over the following months, we spent time designing mood boards, colour schemes, visiting the beautiful venue, trying out chair sashes and really focusing on creating their perfect day."
"Laura, 24 met Simon, 31 in Macclesfield on a night out at The Silk Worm, in Laura's words 'they were both on the dance floor and the rest is history!'. It was only fitting that after Simon proposed in exotic Dubai that they decided to marry not far from their original meeting place in the stunning venue of Sandhole Oak Barn situated near to Congleton. A hugely popular venue due to its hard to beat views of the Cheshire countryside and its very own lake! The inside of the venue was filled with natural oak pillars and beams, so beautiful that simplicity had to be the key when dressing the venue. After our venue visit together, I had could visualise exactly what the couple needed to dress such a beautiful venue.
When the big day arrived we chose natural jute to dress the chairs, tables and pillars teamed with vintage lace and sprigs of gypsophila to embellish the interior. To bring the outside in, we used log slices and aged muted jugs would adorn the centres of the tables accompanied by wild flowers from The White Room Floral Design . For guest favours Simons mum provided jars of her yummy home made jams with fruit from her allotment, decorated with floral lids and labels designed by the couple. Laura also made beautiful hand knitted toys for her younger guests to enjoy. "
"Vintage suitcases were used for the table plan and cards box. A mini photograph of each guest was pegged to hessian twine and draped inside a suitcase adorned with Laura's floral fabrics. Laura and Simon had picked pictures of some of their guests from their past. The guests loved this idea and had such fun finding their places and having a sneaky peak at the other guests comedy photos."
"The top table was draped in a stunning floral arrangement by The White Room. To add to the woodland like effect the flowers gave, I brought individual log slices for each member of the top table to enjoy their dinner on. I also handmade a personalised Mr & Mrs Walsh bunting using Laura's fabrics to hang from the front of the table."
"A vintage 'love' ladder was used to remember achievements of family members but also remember who had passed away and made sure that their presence was felt at the wedding. The ladder was adorned with photographs and memorabilia chosen by the couple that were personal to them."
Working with Laura and Simon was such fun and after the event, Laura and Simon had these very kind words to say:
“We met Madeleine at a Wedding Fayre at the Deaf Institute in Manchester and we were very impressed with the items on her stand. She was the first vendor we met there, and she made a lasting impression. We immediately felt confident in Madeleine to deliver exactly what we wanted for our wedding. She provided tonnes of ideas and inspiration which helped mould all our ideas into a cohesive plan.
Madeleine was always on hand to answer questions or bounce ideas off, and came to our house regularly for meetings to discuss ideas further. She also came to the venue to scope things out and provide further ideas and twists on those we had ourselves. She made us feel at ease throughout that things would go according to plan.
On the actual day Madeleine and her husband Sam were both there very early and had begun setting up when Simon arrived. Everything was in place and being sorted out already and both of them and there was very little that Simon could do to help, it was all in hand and being taken care of superbly.
I would absolutely recommend All Grown Up. Madeleine was the perfect person to provide this service for us and we would recommend her to anyone who was getting married.”
